Following last year’s introduction of its innovative solutions in Erbil, Kurdistan, ARA Infratech has embarked on a second visit to the region. The visit has been prompted by an investor working on large solar projects in the area and was conducted under an official invitation from the Ministry to undertake a “Smart Grid and Loss Elimination Project in Kurdistan Zakho.” The primary objective for the concrete elaboration on the Zakho grid is to enhance grid efficiency and further reduce non-technical losses, building on our initial efforts. Zakho is fully equipped with smart meters, facilitating advanced monitoring and management techniques.
During the seven-day stay in Kurdistan, which included a three-day intensive analysis in Zakho, a comprehensive assessment of the local infrastructure and software ecosystem was conducted. The team met with engineers from various departments within the distribution unit to gather detailed information about the grid’s current state. Eng. Anwar Arshak, General Director of the distribution unit of Zakho kindly supported the process (picture above). A demonstration has been given on how ARA Infratech’s solution could be tailored to address the specific challenges faced by the region. In conclusion, a thorough understanding of the grid’s condition, the extent of smart meter installations and activations, the GIS and head-end systems in use, as well as the CRM and billing systems has been built.
Our analysis included a feasibility study for the loss elimination project. For that a coordination with investors and other key stakeholders has taken place. A detailed report for the Ministry, outlining the current situation and providing strategic recommendations for moving forward has been handed in.
ARA Infratech is committed to advancing this initiative and looks forward to the next steps. Stay tuned for updates on our ongoing efforts to optimize the electricity grid in Kurdistan.
